About the Therapist

Andrea Kuhn-Johnstone

I originally come from Zimbabwe, but I grew up in the diverse international community of Dubai. Now I'm based in the Netherlands, where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and later earned a Master’s Degree (MA) in Counseling Psychology. My experiences have made me open-minded and understanding, and ready to build authentic client-therapist relationships.

I adopt a blended approach in my practice. What matters most to me is understanding your unique needs before selecting a specific psychological approach to guide us toward therapeutic objectives. My main focus is on providing a safe environment where we can have open conversations about our concerns and delve deeper into understanding them.

Growing up, mental health was not at the forefront of my life. The traditional upbringing I experienced did not foster open conversations about seeking help from a professional. This created pivotal moments for me, sparking curiosity about human behavior. I initially began by asking questions about myself and then expanded my curiosity to those around me. I observed that there was always more to the story, igniting my journey into psychology and the path toward becoming a therapist. It wasn't until I turned 21 that I attended therapy myself and truly grasped its benefits. Therapy not only assisted me in making changes to behaviors that were no longer healthy but also allowed me to explore parts of myself that had long been a source of curiosity. For me, therapy has always been a safe and open space where I felt willing to make the changes necessary for personal growth.

To go back in time, my first psychology class in high school, taught by an amazing professor, was a moment I will never forget. It was the first seed that was planted that helped me decide I wanted to assist people in discovering their true selves and experiencing life's euphoria. This is why I love and choose to be a therapist, because all of that is attainable.

In the realm of therapy, we embark on a journey through the intricate layers of our experiences, unveiling the hidden thoughts and meanings that may hinder our progress toward healing and achieving the life goals we've long aspired to attain.
